Lovely moms & babies out there….. Howdy? 😀
I was away from my blogs for some time due to ill health & now back as happy & fresh as ever! 🙂
Presenting another essentials list in the ‘Checklist Mania’ series.. This time for your DIAPER BAG!
You all know a diaper bag is an essential.. but are you holding all essential things inside it? Never mind… This post is exactly gonna help you with it! 😀
As a first time mom, I had to think of & write down what all I need, when I need, how I need to organize it….no I do not have OCD! You cannot just let yourself loose, when you have a baby.. they are out here to test all the skills you have learnt throughout life – in one single day! 😀
This checklist again is something I prepared and sutffs I packed in a diaper bag so that I don’t miss out any thing essential for my baby.
1. DIAPER BAG
No.. don’t gimme those looks! 😛
I mean you can pick a specifically designed diaper bag with funny or cartoon imprints with various compartments or just choose a spacious, less used handbag of yours for the same.
Though I checked out scores of diaper bags online & offline, I was not sure if I was ready to loiter around with a bag printed with monkeys & cows fooling around! 😀 I decided to make one of my older, spacious handbag for the same.
Its got animal prints on it with just a single compartment – but when you are organized, you don’t need to scuttle through your bag.
Of course – diapers go into a diaper bag! 😛
Keep atleast 3 diapers in your bag… you might end up staying out longer than you had planned or your baby might have poo-d, calling for a change.
My personal choices are Pampers New Born Diapers, Mamy Poko Pants & Pampers Active Baby Diapers with Magic Gel.
Never let your baby be in one diaper for more than 5 hrs.
3. DIAPER CHANGING PAD/SHEET
Self-explanatory… You need one to lay your baby down, clean him/her up & change the diaper.
Lots of cute printed diaper changing pads are available these days. Some are foldable with a velcro tape as well. You can choose a matching pad to go with your diaper bag as well.
4. WET WIPES
This is the diaper’s sister! It goes wherever the other one goes! 😀
Keep a small pack of 10-20 wipes handy in your diaper bag. Strictly use fragrance-free ones, as fragrance can irritate your baby’s tender skin.
Check for label – “Suitable from birth” or “Suitable for new born”, in case your little one is brand new in this world! 😀
My personal choices are Mee Mee Baby Wipes & Himalaya Wet Wipes.
5. BIBS/BURP CLOTHS
You baby might puke a little or little of its feed can come out when it burps. Spillage during feeds can also be cleaned off easily without bothering your or your baby’s clothes.
Keep atleast 2-3 pieces of these inside the bag.
6. NAPPY RASH CREAM
Absolute essential! Always keep one of this tossed inside this bag. It is ideal to use a diaper rash cream on the baby in between nappy changes as well, to prevent diaper rash – rather than applying one after the rashes have erupted.
I prefer & suggest Sebamed Diaper Rash Cream. It claims to balance the pH of the skin & also is great at preventing rashes.
7. SPARE BAGS/POLYETHENE COVERS
Now you gotta throw the used diaper away… But where? If you do not find a trash bin nearby, these spare bags or polyethene covers come handy to tuck your waste diapers inside the bag.
You can use ziplock bags/covers to ensure your pee-d diaper is not peeping out! 😛
8. HAND SANITIZER
No brownie points for guessing this in the list! A must-have not just in a diaper bag, but any bag that you carry. But can’t stress its usage more here.
To calm down your baby & put him to sleep, you will need one on the go. Buy a pacifier that comes with a lid to lock it inside. Sterilize both the lid & the pacifier every time.
10. SPARE INFANT CLOTHES
Is of great use, when your baby’s clothes get dirty or he needs a change before you attend a party on the run.
You won’t need any toy if its a newborn, but once your baby is about 6 months old – he/she will need some entertainment or fun stuff to keep them engaged. It is ideal to distract the baby when it gets cranky or keeps crying.
Just thrown in one or two of your baby’s favorite toys – preferably compact ones like a rattler or musical toy.
12. BABY BLANKET
Required to wrap the baby in case it suddenly starts raining or gets cold.
13. NURSING WRAP
You will need this to feed modestly, if you are breastfeeding your baby – be it home or in the public.
Though most public places have nursing stations these days, you wouldn’t want to flash your “maternal glands” in front of unknown faces.. do you?
14. FEEDING BOTTLE & FORMULA
Toss in a sterilized feeding bottle & some infant milk formula into your diaper bag before stepping out of the house. Remember to keep the measuring spoon inside the box containing the formula.
Accordingly keep some warm water to mix the formula in a small thermos flask.
15. YOUR WALLET
When you have a baby, stuffs you carry for yourself, take a back seat. Ralph Laurens & Louis Vuittons give way to Winnie the Pooh & Minnie the Mouse! :p
All you manage to toss in is your humble wallet then.. 😀 Choose a wallet that can handle cards, some coins, cash, your keys & probably a mini lipstick or gloss for touch-up on the go!
You think which wallet can do all of this together? They call it a – ZIPPER POUCH! 😀
